Let’s be honest, who doesn’t like watching videos? People often watch them on their own time for entertainment or a distraction from work. However, others watch them as sources of information. What makes videos so powerful is the fact that people don’t like to read anymore. If they are looking for information, they want to receive it in the most direct way possible. This is especially true of the younger generation, who has become conditioned to going to YouTube at site which “more than 1 billion people visit …each month.” Rather than try to fight this trend, why not try to use it to your advantage? 

Making videos is easier than ever. For the most basic of videos all you need is a smart phone and a computer. The iPhone actually records in great quality and most computers come with a basic video editing software. If you have trouble using either one, just search for a video tutorial on how to use it! Now going back to why people watch videos. Yes they can be entertaining and yes they can be sources of information but why not both? As a company, it is important to reach the public in an effective way that is memorable and meaningful. You can use it on a public site like You Tube to reach people and direct them to your site where you can have another video explaining the content of your site. The video on your homepage hooks people into the rest of your site looking for more information not explained in your video.

When searching for something on the Internet, videos tend to have a higher ranking in search engines. This is called Search Engine Optimization in which keywords in your video description increases the chances of your video appearing higher on the search list. This will improve the likelihood of your video being “clicked on” and increase the chances of people actually visiting your site.

I know I’ve said this repeatedly but I only continue to because it is the most important thing.

I’m not saying that people only enjoy watching things that are funny or entertaining but people enjoy receiving information from a video rather than just some boring text. You don’t want your video to be too long but it needs to be just long enough to capture the interest of your audience to pull them into the rest of your website. Your video isn’t meant to replace your whole website. You can never fit all that information into a quick 2-minute video. It should be used to hook in your audience to delve deeper into the rest of the content in your site.

Filming and editing videos may seem intimidating at first but once you see how easily it can be done, you can be making videos in no time. You don’t need a fancy camera or some high-quality video editing software. You can use your smartphone and the basic video editing software that comes available on almost any computer. Even if you don’t know how to use either of these, there are lots of resources to help you. All you need to do is perform a Google search and thousands of links will come up with easy to follow directions to help you every step of the way.  

4. Video Is Mobile

It is impossible to deny that technology is getting more sophisticated by the minute. There is a huge demand for making technology mobile so that people can stay active while on the go in this crazy world. Smart phones have come pretty close to dominating this field by having constant Internet access to web browsers and emails. These smart phones have tiny screens compared to their desktop predecessors, which makes reading text on that tiny screen very difficult. A video on the other hand, can appear as much larger and be designed to fit the screen of a mobile device making the loss in video quality much less severe.
